Bus driver held for killing street dog

A BEST bus driver has been arrested for killing a street Dog at Dahisar. The incident took place on Tuesday evening when the driver of BEST bus route number 240 which was heading towards Dahisar from Borivali rammed the dog which resulted into its death.

After this incident, local residents managed to stop the bus and one of the resident Christina called the activist Salim Charania of PAWA INDIA Animal NGO and informed them about the incident. Later Charania registered a complaint against the bus driver for killing the street dog and rash driving.

One of the witness informed the police that the bus driver was driving the vehicle speedily and it was empty. The driver was in a hurry to leave the bus from the depot for its journey. He even saw the street dog on road before the accident occurred.

Charania said, “When local residents informed me about this incident, I reached the spot within 15 minutes and took the dog to the hospital but it was declared dead. This is the first instance when a government employee and BEST bus driver was arrested for killing animal.”

Police Sub Inspector Avinash Pawar of MHB Police Station said, “We have registered a case against the bus driver Arjun Kharat for rash driving and killing a dog under section 279 and 428 of the IPC. He was granted bail later.”
