Ethiopian Airlines plane hijacked by co-pilot: Police

Ethiopian-AirlinesAn Ethiopian Airlines plane was reportedly hijacked by co-pilot on Monday and was forced to land at Geneva airport in Switzerland.

The co-pilot, who was arrested by the police, wanted to leave Ethiopia as he feared persecution and sought asylum.

Apart from being Ethiopian, police has not revealed any further information regarding the identity of the hijacker.

Soon after the arrest, the police confirmed that no passenger or crew has been hurt in the incident.

All 200 passengers and crew members on the flight are stated to be safe, the Ethiopian Airlines stated in a statement.

The Boeing 707-300 flight was on its way to Rome from Addis Abba 702 when it was reportedly hijacked.

The crew of the plane sent a signal that it has been hijacked while it was travelling over Sudan.
