President of the Maharashtra Unit of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) Vilas Garud alleged that the Sharad Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party is playing tactics with its own allies in order to secure a plum deal with them in the upcoming Maharashtra assembly elections.

“There are a lot of speculations going on for last few days about Sharad Pawar meeting Mayawati (BSP Supremo) and talks of a possible alliance for the upcoming elections are taking place. I want to clearly state this is a false rumour being planted in the media,” Garud told.

Garud further alleged that the NCP is planting false rumours.

“The NCP is planting false rumours in media because it wants to pressurise its ally and get a good deal for itself in the bargain,” he said.

He further added that Mayawati has made her stand very clear, that all 288 assembly seats will be fought by the BSP without entering into any alliance.

“Mayawati categorically told me that she has not even spoke to Sharad Pawar on phone and meeting him is out of question. They are only trying to mislead people into believing their false rumours so that they can gain from it,” Garud said.

“BSP will contest on all 288 seats (in the upcoming assembly elections) without entering into an alliance with any party. People and party workers should not fall prey to these rumours,” he added.

Meanwhile, NCP spokesperson Nawab Malik today clarified that there have been no talks within the party of an alliance with the BSP as yet, but they are open to it.

“No decision or discussion has taken place in the party over an alliance with BSP. But we are open to joining hands with likeminded parties for the assembly polls,” he said.
