‘Sachet’ wants to spread Environmental Awareness

Sachet1

‘Sachet — For Our Nature’ is a film based on creating awareness about the environment and the short film starring popular television face child artist Harshita Ojha talks about global warming, air pollution, the importance of saving water, air, and trees in a unique way. For knowing more about the film, our Editor-in-Chief Vaidehi had a conversation with the producer of the short film Sanjay Ojha. The proud father seemed very excited about his daughter’s digital and singing debut in the film and much more confident about the intention of the film in spreading a message on Environmental Awareness. Here are the excerpts:

  1. What is the movie Sachet all about?

‘Sachet – For Our Nature’ is a short film based on Environmental Awareness. It’s based on a short play “Fark Padta Hai” and it’s an experimental short film where children are playing adult characters. Harshita Ojha is playing a Teacher. All child actors are giving a message about Environmental Awareness and a social message such as we should save water, we should clean our city like our home, we should not smoke in front of the kids, and we must act to stop air pollution and noise pollution.

  1. How the children who made their debut in this YouTube movie are selected?

All the children are a part of the Stage Act – Platform of Creative Arts. They learn techniques of Acting here. After 12 practical Workshops, they improve their acting skills and now they are part of this YouTube short film.

  1. Did they participate in any training sessions by taking admission by paying fees?

They did 12 practical Workshops of Acting Techniques at Stage Act – A Platform of Creative Arts.

  1. Whose brainchild is this movie?

This film is the brainchild of our Director/Writer Sandeep Bidlan; he is one who decided to make this movie. He selected a Play Script of ‘Fark Padta Hai’ written by Keyur Seta. The Director converted this script in a short film and made a decision that kids will play each character.

  1. What is the motive behind making ‘Sachet — For Our Nature’ and how you see the response?

This film is giving a message of environmental awareness. This message should be spread all over the world and people should be careful towards Nature.

  1. What are the challenges while making this film with new faces and young children?

Definitely, it was a big challenge for us. All the faces are new apart from Harshita Ojha. However, at the shoot, everyone did a very good job. When you watch the movie, you will not be able to make out that they are acting for the first time and thanks to Harshita Ojha who supported all the kids and made them comfortable to perform. Director Sandeep Bidlan did hard work on all kids.

  1. Tell us something about Harshita’s debut entry as a singer.

We all know that Harshita Ojha is a very good actor and she is very well known because of her show ‘Veera’. Now she is doing a role in this short film (Guest appearance) and sang a song too. She is a very good singer as well as an actor.

  1. Will she be coming up with own albums?

Surely she will come up with her own album, but not now. Right now she is in her learning process. In the future, when she will be completely prepared, she will definitely do it.

  1. When can we see you producing mainstream cinema and Harshita as the main lead?

Not now but we will plan in future for mainstream cinema also. Right now we are focusing on only good short films.

  1. What would be your message to our readers?

I would like to appeal to every one to save our nature and to subscribe to our YouTube channel StageAct.

Congress leader Divya Spandana became victim of the ban on spokespersons of the party as she congratulated Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for becoming the first full time female finance minister. The Congress leadership did not like it and her Twitter account suddenly disappeared from the micro-blogging site. She paid a heavy price for praising the BJP leader.

It is remarkable that Congress spokesperson Divya Spandana’s profile page now says, “This account doesn’t exist.” Earlier, Congress national spokesperson Randeep Surjewala had tweeted on Thursday asking the media channels to not place Congress representatives on their shows. However, it is not known yet if Spandana’s disappearance from Twitter is a result of the party’s month-long ban on the spokespersons appearing on television debates.

Spandana has played a major role in improving Congress’s improved social media game. The media wing of Congress remained silent on the issue. On the other hand, Spandana dismissed rumours of her departure from the national party, ANI reported.

In the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections, the Congress party faced a severe defeat and the party could win only 52 seats. Congress President Rahul Gandhi lost the election from his old bastion Amethi. However, he managed the entry in the Parliament from Waynad in Kerala.

Days after the announcement of Lok Sabha results and congratulating Nirmala Shitharaman on being given the post of Finance Minister, the Congress social media head Divya Spandana aka Ramya appeared to have deleted her Twitter and Instagram accounts on Sunday.

A search for @divyaspandana on Twitter says “Sorry, that page doesn’t exist!”. There has been no official confirmation on the reason behind the Twitter account going missing.

Rumours say, Spandana has parted ways from the grand old party, sources told ANI.

‘Your sources are wrong’, she was quoted telling news agency ANI.

Although her Twitter and Instagram accounts seem to have been deleted, her Facebook page is still active.

Spandana, who is known for her sharp and caustic tweets attacking the BJP, has been credited for revamping Congress’ strategy, aiming to boost the party’s popularity among the social media users.

The Congress last week had officially announced that their leaders or members will not participate in discussions or television debates for a month.

South Africa to clash with Bangladesh today

south africa vs bangladeshSouth Africa will face Bangladesh at Oval, London in the Match 5 of the 2019 Cricket World Cup tournament. This is South Africa’s second match in the tournament. South Africa had lost their previous encounter with England. On the other hand, Bangladesh is slated to play its first match in the tournament. These two teams have clashed with each other at Dhaka in 2011 World Cup tournament where South Africa defeated Bangladesh by 206 runs.

South Africa has already lost the opening encounter to England. The team’s batting unit has struggled to score runs of late and their bowling unit has bailed out them. Bangladesh has a good experienced side but injuries to several players have been a cause of concern for the team. Both teams will be facing each other for the first time at Oval ground. South Africa had lost their last three one day matches held in England in 2017 whereas Bangladesh could manage to win only one encounter out of four matches played by them.

Maharashtra facing severe drought

Several villages in Maharashtra are facing acute water shortage. People are struggling to fetch water in the drought-hit areas of the state. The Marathwada region of the state is the worst hit region affected due to water scarcity. The region has only 3.02% of water left in all its reservoirs as against 23.52% at the same time in last year. Of its nine reservoirs, eight have zero water stock. Only Jayakwadi has dead stock for use.

Water is being supplied to people through water tankers which are proving to be inadequate. Currently, 5,943 tankers ply in all across the state to supply water to 4,331 villages. Due to drought situation, people are migrating to cities from villages. Even farmers have discontinued farming activities due to water scarcity. Water stock in the state is depleting day by day. Even though the state government had launched the Jalyukt Shivar Abhiyan to make the state drought-free by 2019 several regions of the state are witnessing acute water shortage.

Houthis a Grave Concern for Saudis

Houthis militias

Recent attacks launched by Houthis rebels on critical installations of Saudi Arabia has demonstrated a significant leap in their capabilities. The story of how Ansar Allah (the official name of Houthi movement) moved from small-arms ambushes to medium-range ballistic missile and sophisticated drone attacks deep inside enemy territory in just half a decade illustrates that how an ambitious militant group can capture and use a state’s arsenals and benefit from Iran’s support. With every passing day, the Houthi movement is proving itself to be a very tough military opponent for Government of ousted Yemeni President Abd Rabbu Mansur Hadi and his Saudis sponsors. Fourteen years of conflict have strengthened Houthis, and they are thriving under the conditions of war. Since the early 2000s, and especially in the past four years of conflict, the Houthis have transformed from a small-scale rebel group warring in Yemen’s extreme north to central participants in perhaps the most significant regional conflict in the history of the modern Arabian Peninsula and the world’s deadliest war today. Today, the Houthis are taking on and posing a great threat to the important infrastructure of the big brother of the region that is Saudi Arabia which is flush with Western weapons and oil money.

drone attack saudi arabia

In mid-May, the Houthis drone warfare reached a new level of sophistication. Drone attacks on a Saudi oil pipeline west of Riyadh came as a surprise to Saudis. The Aramco East-West pipeline, stretching across the country to the port and oil terminal at Yanbu, was damaged at two places as pumping stations were hit. These bold attacks show that Houthis have taken a different trajectory of economic warfare towards Saudis. In March this year, the Houthis released video footage of a drone flying past Saudi’s al-Shuqaiq water treatment and power plant. Houthis are clearly sending a message to their big neighbour that they are capable enough to threaten their key installations. Moreover, Houthis through use of re-engineered Chinese commercial drones and Iranian military UAVs, like Qasef-1 model regularly harass the Saudis anti-missile systems. Saudi officials admit that Houthis technology has quickly evolved from small, propeller-powered surveillance drones to a larger plane-shaped model, named UAV-X by United Nations investigators, that can travel more than 900 miles at a speed of 150 miles-per-hour. This is really a matter of concern for Saudi Arabia as now Ansar Allah can strike at their core. There is a high possibility that the next round of Houthis-Saudis conflict will spread deep inside Kingdom and to shipping lanes in the Red Sea.

Ansar Allah also turned out to be successful in the raiding war along with Saudi-Yemeni border, where it has fought a Hezbollah-style guerrilla campaign against Saudi border forces. Houthi forces have achieved great tactical success against Saudi border posts through offensive mine-laying on supply routes and Anti-Tank Guided Missiles (ATGM) strikes on armoured vehicles and outposts. Houthis also have their own in-house weapons production facilities. A number of small-scale military industries have been established since 2014 to support the war effort and maximize domestic reuse and production capabilities, in order to minimize the effect of the international arms embargo on the Houthi movement. A land-mine production facility was established in Sa’ada, for feeding distribution hubs in Sana’a, Hodeida, and Dhamar. In Hodeida, a drone workshop operates, drawing on a supply of rolls of fiberglass to make airframes. In addition to this, the Houthis have smoothly absorbed the new missile and rocket systems. Moreover, they now know these weapons effective deployment and launch system through Iranian training and technical assistance. Hence, now Houthis are not totally dependent on Iranian help to carry out these kinds of long-range attacks on Saudi Arabia.

The Houthis have also been strengthened from missteps by the Arab coalition and the Yemeni government. The Arab coalition’s negligent airstrikes against previously unaligned tribes have given the Houthis new allies which ensure them constant supplies of new fighters. So, rather than escalating this conflict to new heights, Saudis should engage Houthi and form a functional relationship with them as the other Yemeni parties. In this process, Saudis can take help from regional countries which has credibility and legitimacy such as Oman. There is also a good reason to start this initiative as the Houthis have long privately signalled an interest in direct talks with the Saudis, rather with the Hadi government, which they know has a limited political life. Moreover, a significant number of Houthi leaders understands that a political accommodation with the great neighbour across the border is far more beneficial for their community’s ultimate survival rather than a relationship with a partner of convenience that is Iran which is physically distant and has very few non-military resources to offer. Hence, a Saudi-led diplomatic manoeuvre to engage Houthis directly would offer a much-needed, middle way to end this disastrous war which is taking a heavy toll on Yemenis and also threatening the stability of the whole Arabian Peninsula.

FEATURE LETTER DIARY 679x400 e1553672678487Rent a cycle scheme

Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) kick started the Public Bicycle Sharing system in the hope of encouraging intra-city travel and at the same time the initiative is aimed at reducing city’s carbon footprint. The cycling project at Nerul’s Jewel of Navi Mumbai in sector 26, Mini seashore, opposite to Fortis Hospital and now introduced in sector 9 in Sanpada just in front of Lad Master Sitaram Udya and it is a success. The number of cycles available for hire has increased in the last couple of days, and it reveals its significant success in this corridor. In order to further reduce our city’s carbon footprints, cycling is the best option available and NMMC has taken the initiative rather seriously to provide the facility to more centres in the satellite city.

Rent a cycle scheme is becoming highly popular and the same was introduced during school vacation to bring it to the fore. Both the young and the old avail of the facility. Again, both men and women opt for rent a cycle scheme with great pleasure. The roads in Navi Mumbai are wide enough and a cycle track can be provided to make the scheme a meaningful one. Besides Yulu Bikes, another private company has also shown interest in starting the rent-a-cycle scheme in other parts of the city. To use this facility, citizens will have to download a mobile app to rent the cycles. The payment will be made through mobile wallets like paytm and PayPal. The Yulu Bikes are charging a nominal rent of Rs.10 for half an hour of cycling. This is good initiative by NMMC, but dedicated cycle lanes are a must for this cycle plan to succeed in the city.

Significance of Eid-ul-Fitr

Eid or Eid-ul-Fitr is a very important festival for the Muslim community all over the world as this day marks the end of the holy month of Ramzan. During Ramzan, Muslims all over the world keep fasting from dawn till dusk, as a mark of piety to God and the teachings of Prophet Muhammad. Not even a glass of water is drunk during this holy month of fasting, however hot the climate may be or however thirsty one may feel.

The month of Ramzan is very auspicious to people belonging to the Islamic community all over the world. It is celebrated on the day after the crescent moon is sighted. Muslims observe a fast for a full month, starting with the sighting of the new moon and ending it after seeing the new moon, the next month. Muslims give alms and recite the Holy Quran during this holy month of Ramadan (or Ramzan, as it is called). Eid is celebrated all over the world with much enthusiasm and fervour.

Take steps to curb pollution by cars also

It refers to welcome news that only e-scooters (two-wheelers) will be sold in the country after 2025 while in respect of three wheelers, the deadline is even earlier of 2020. Since two-wheelers constitute major portion of total vehicle-sale in the country, ban on two-wheelers and three-wheelers other than driven by pre-charged electric-engines will effectively check pollution.

However till phenomenon of exclusively sold e-cars becomes a dream come true, cars should be allowed to be sold only with petrol-engines fitted with CNG-kit. Production and sale of cars driven by diesel-engines should be altogether banned with immediate effect. Production of diesel-driven cars is gross misuse of having price of diesel less than that of petrol only for keeping cost of public-transportation less.

Also since big cars occupy more space in road and parking, their production should be discouraged because these cars are purchased and used by affording rich. GST, road-tax, insurance and other levies on cars with ex-showroom price say above rupees ten lakhs should be doubled. There should be a complete ban on loans on costlier cars. Only economical cars should be purchased by central and state governments and their public-sector-undertakings including even for judges of higher courts, ministers and top bureaucrats except required for use by foreign dignitaries visiting India that too on permission from Union Ministry of External Affairs.

PM Modi the most popular national figure in Indian Politics — Part I

Narendra modi
File Pic

68-year-old Narendra Modi, a vibrant icon has now sworn as India’s 15th Prime Minister. His life is a journey full of courage, compassion, and constant hard work. He became India’s Prime Minister in 2014 when his party won a historic landslide victory in the national general elections. He was sworn in as Prime Minister of India on May 26, 2014. Ever since he assumed office in May 2014, PM Modi has embarked on a journey of all-round and inclusive development where every Indian can realise their hopes and aspirations. He is a polarising figure, evoking visceral reactions across the political spectrum. PM Modi remains “by far the most popular national figure in Indian politics” after coming to power. He is a serious economic reformer with real popular touch. The manner in which the BJP has established its presence demonstrates how much popular faith it has won in the past five years of its tenure at the centre. It shows there is no short cut to achieve success,” diamond shines more when it is rubbed”. In India today, there are very fewer politicians who are given respect and Modi is one of them. He is the man who is capable of carving a line on waters.

Modi is the first PM who has popularity all over the world for his excellent and dynamic presentation making India very stable despite too much opposition and critics. He is the first administrator to prove that administration is based on development and has no space for any negativity which is against of democracy and this is the reason he got an overwhelming majority in the Lok Sabha, crossing on its own the 300 seat mark while storming back to power for the second consecutive term. BJP has received unprecedented support from all sections of society. This mandate gives Modi for another term to be the Prime Minister; he will be delivering progress everywhere in the country. This is the first time when BJP has managed to secure a majority on its own for the second consecutive term after Indira Gandhi had won in 1971. Earlier, Jawaharlal Nehru had performed that feat. He is the first PM who has popularity all over the world for his excellent and dynamic presentation making India very stable despite too much opposition. Clearly, Modi has been able to persuade the people that his government is better than that of Congress, and that seems to be the sufficient condition for staying in power under the current rules of democracy in India. No politician in the past 30 years has occupied the public’s mind space as he has. 2019 election has proved how wildly popular Modi is and BJP saw a clear mandate to transform India for other five years. Mere criticism will not have the desired effect if it is not substantiated. The message is very positive and people’s interest lies in the progress and not in unnecessary protest and slogans. His model of good governance is being applauded within the country and beyond.

His charisma has lifted to new heights. BJP has received unprecedented support from all sections of society. In addition, the BJP not only held on to its social base but managed to attract a large number of voters from other communities. Majority of the public loved him and his methods of improving the nation to a better place to live. His main focus is the economic and social sectors, along with the foreign interaction and new policies.

Particularly ‘Chowkidar Chor Hai’ (The watchman is a thief) campaign carried out by Congress president Rahul Gandhi has backfired and boomeranged. The Congress and other opposition parties never learned a lesson from the 2014 defeat and they have paid a huge price in 2019. The greatest quality in Modi is that he converted all the negatives into positives and reaped the benefits. Accepting the resounding poll victory, he has promised that he will not work with “bad intentions” and that he would like to move ahead by taking everyone along, leaving behind the bitterness witnessed during the Lok Sabha campaign.

Nitish Kumar’s cabinet expansion start of tussle with Modi

nitish kumarBihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar expanded his cabinet on Sunday. Eight Janata Dal (United) MLAs were sworn inin this cabinet expansion. Governor Lalji Tandon administered oath of office and secrecy to new ministers. It is remarkable that Nitish Kumar had refused to be part of Modi 2.0 government on last Thursday as he was not satisfied with only one cabinet berth. Todays’ cabinet expansion is being seen as a reaction to the BJP’s stand at the centre. It is said that Nitish Kumar’s cabinet expansion is the start of tussle with Modi.

According to sources, Ashok Choudhary, Bima Bharti, Shyam Rajak, Narendra Narayan Yadav, Neeraj Kumar, Sanjay Jha, Lakshmeshwar Rai and Ram Sevak Singh are new ministers, who have taken oath.

The development comes a day after Janata Dal (United) chief Nitish Kumar rejected BJP’s offer of one cabinet birth in Modi government 2.0. Coming back to Patna on Friday, Nitish Kumar said that while his party will remain firmly part of the NDA, they will not join Modi government as cabinet members for next five years. He said that he had demanded a fair representation of parties in cabinet according to the number of seats, but his party allotted just one cabinet position like all others, despite 16 MPs Of the party.

Congress in Hibernation

lead 3

After receiving a severe drubbing in the recently concluded Lok Sabha polls, the Congress will not be sending its spokespersons on TV channels for debates for a month. The Congress, which only managed to win 52 seats, wants to steer clear of TV debates for one month. The party, which had fought the Lok Sabha polls on unemployment and Rafale deal, has failed to challenge the BJP as the saffron party won the election by winning 303 seats. Congress leaders think that it is not the right time to attack the Modi government by raking up the same issues. By doing so, Congress is going into the damage control mode by asking its spokespersons to refrain from participating in TV debates.

Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala tweeted, “@INCIndia has decided to not send spokespersons on television debates for a month. All media channels/editors are requested to not place Congress representatives on their shows.”

Samajwadi Party leader Abu Azmi said, “TV anchors present false information and they support BJP. It seems that these anchors are spokespersons of BJP. They bring forward those matters which can create hostility between two communities. When Muslims don’t recite Vande Mataram a wrong message is sent towards Hindus and they think that the former is not patriotic towards the nation. However, Muslims only bow before Allah. According to me, the debate should happen and can happen if the show is hosted by journalists like Ravish Kumar, Vinod Dua, and Punya Prasun Bajpai.”

Congress has always been known to attack the BJP through television and social media. The issues raised by the party against BJP have failed to strike a chord with the voters. The decision to not send spokespersons for TV debate comes at a time when Congress is facing leadership issues. Congress president Rahul Gandhi had taken responsibility for the party’s failure in the general elections and had offered to step down. However, the party leaders have not accepted his resignation and have urged him to continue leading the party. These leaders, sources said, maintained that the Congress cannot afford to have someone new at the helm to revive the outfit at this juncture and that responsibility for the defeat is collective and not individual. Rahul, nonetheless, is adamant on his stand and has given the party one month to find his successor.

Former BJP Rajasthan president Arun Chaturvedi said, “It is not a right step taken by the Congress as they are shunning the truth. The party has been speaking lies and they have taken this decision to save their face. They are not in a position to face questions from the media. Debates should happen in a democracy.”

After the Lok Sabha poll defeat confusion is prevailing in the party and there is no clarity on official party position on a sensitive internal issue. Moreover, AICC feels that spokespersons should not appear on TV debates at a time when they are not in a position to defend or articulate party line with clarity. The leadership also doesn’t want these spokespersons ending up giving ideas and suggestions to senior leadership through talk shows.

NCP IT cell National President Bindu Bhosale said, “It may be their internal decision as a reshuffling of the outfit might be happening. Therefore, the party might have restricted spokespersons from participating in TV debates.”

Congress is currently facing dissension in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Karnataka, three of the only five states where it runs a government. In Madhya where the Congress lost 28 out of 29 seats to the BJP, the Kamal Nath government has a thin majority and is at the mercy of two legislators of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP). The Congress had fielded candidates against BSP in Uttar Pradesh for the Lok Sabha polls and now BSP chief Mayawati has no obligation to continue supporting the Congress government in MP.

Congress spokesperson Hemlata Patil said, “The All India Congress Committee (AICC) has taken this decision. It is a right step taken by the party. Some media is biased and hold discussions. Thus, if no spokesperson participates in TV debate for one month a message can be sent to media that no discussion is possible without an opposition party. They will review the decision after one month. On the other hand, in a democracy, we should interact with the people.”

Rahul Gandhi had raised objections against Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot seeking the Lok Sabha ticket for his son Vaibhav Gehlot. However, Vaibhav contested election from Jodhpur and lost. Rahul is reported to have reacted very strongly to this. The internal crises within Karnataka government have been rampant ever since the Congress and Janata Dal (S) stopped the BJP juggernaut in the assembly polls. Two Congress legislators had met former Karnataka chief minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader S.M. Krishna setting off alarm bells for the H.D. Kumaraswamy-led coalition government which is trying to keep its alliance intact after differences cropped due to poor performance in the Lok Sabha polls.
