A 17-year-old girl from Jalna travelled all the way to Mumbai to seek justice after she was allegedly raped by her father and molested by his friend. According to the police, they spotted a girl standing at Azad Maidan holding a placard which read that she wants justice. She was then taken to the Azad Maidan police station.

Once at the police station, the girl narrated the incident to the police and said when she informed her mother about it, she warned her to not tell anyone.

In spite of her mother’s warning, she approached the Jalna police but they did not file a first information report (FIR). Then she decided to approach the Mumbai police.

The Mumbai Police then filed a zero FIR and transferred it to Jalna police after which they came to Mumbai and took the girl back to Jalna. They have also arrested the girl’s father, his friend and her mother.

Samadhan Pawar, Jalna SP said, “In our primary investigation, we found that the girl did approach the local police to file a complaint, but they did not register a FIR. A departmental inquiry has been initiated against those cops who turned the victim away.”

Joint CP (law and order), Vinoy Chaubey averred, “The officers who spotted the girl and took the right action will be rewarded by the Mumbai Police. We are always extra careful and sensitive when it comes to such matters and conduct regular drives to sensitise our officers.”

Upgradation of Mumbai local network is need of the hour

The local trains of Mumbai are the heart of Mumbaikars. They carry thousands of people day in and day out. Most of the people spend their precious time in these locals.  There are a number of problems involved but not much can be done because we have already utilised all our resources to the maximum level. Thus a convenient option would be to develop alternate routes and modes of transportation and get innovative techniques rather than trying to burden the already burdened local system. A better transportation system is one which caters to the needs of the consumers in time and with a minimum level of comfort.

The frequency of Mumbai local trains is as high as 3 minutes in the Western line and Central line during peak hours. The frequency cannot be increased anymore because that will increase the risk of incurring an accident. So, the trains go jam-packed. Nothing more in terms of frequency can be done. Still the local trains of Mumbai need a lot of makeover but the scope is not much wide. The number of coaches can be increased but most of the stations (platform length) need to be increased. The Harbour line did this very well and now has longer trains than other routes. Every year, more than 3,500 people die of railway accidents out of which 1/3rd accident takes place in Mumbai alone. Along with the railways (local), other dimensions need to be strengthened. GPS enabled train network system can be very helpful in tracking the trains in real time and  head on collision between two trains (any train viz express, local) can be avoided.

Women should be given a priority. For example, the numbers of toilets in the stations of local trains are very few. Men can find a wall but for women, they have to walk a lot to find a toilet that too functional with basic requirements like water and cleanliness. To decongest the local trains, it is very important to develop alternate routes. Though lots of steps have been taken in this direction, but the pace of work is too slow like the monorail and metro.Development of routes which have more number of options for example with the introduction of Versova-Ghatkopar metro, the situation of roads has functional to normal level; also people have more options of travelling, thereby saving time. Also, there should be more inclination by common citizenry to use public transport. The rise in population is a very big problem. Hence, if alternate routes, habitation centers, working centers are not created in the fringe areas of Mumbai, any prevalent transportation system will be insufficient, dysfunctional and overcrowded. Dirty trains, tobacco stains on platforms cost WR Rs 3.5 crore every year. It’s a simple thing but if stopped, this can bring about an enormous difference in terms of cleanliness.

Upgrading Mumbai’s local is not an easy task. As you all know that locals are the lifeline of Mumbaikars. If the locals come to a halt, the whole of Mumbai will come to a standstill. Mumbai’s suburban system is very outdated especially the Harbour line. The ones which are good are Western and the Central line. For upgrading Mumbai’s suburban system, they will have to halt it and stopping Mumbai’s local train would mean removing a heart from a person’s body. But this does not seem to be right. The main reason behind the government spending hugely on Metro trains is because of better connectivity as they travel across various towns where local trains cannot reach.

Another reason for it is to reduce the carbon footprint in the environment and making Mumbai’s air cleaner to breathe. It’s also to encourage people to use public transport rather than using private vehicles.  As one may know, perhaps Mumbai local train system comes under the Central Govt. And along with the main line, mail, express and freight have been running it for a long time. Many a times, the Indian Railway has requested the state government to help  them acquire land to develop the main line services along with local trains. But a combination of lukewarm attitude or selfish agenda combined with state politics prevented most land acquisitions at a proper time and later it became prohibitively costly. Those who held land had no national interest. Now, the metro is built everywhere and state government is getting the feel of running a public transport efficiently and they get resistance from landholders and land cost being high they have to go mostly underground to build a metro. The difficulty in acquiring land at Aarey and Charkop etc is no different. Everything is done at a colossal cost and obviously passed directly or indirectly to the public by selling buildings by commercial firms and by paying a huge cost to state govt. All this could have been avoided if the earlier state government had helped IR in acquiring vacant land. The local trains are more spacious than the restricted space of metro trains. The bottom-line is a holistic approach is the need of the hour. The most important change that I would like to see is that thorough security checks at stations like the ones done for metros. CCTV cameras should be installed in trains and stations. Proper ventilation should be made available on trains. Frequency of trains should be increased especially during peak hours. Cleanliness and strong actions should be taken against the people who spit around in trains and on platforms too. The railways should come up with automatic closing of doors system so that those crowds who jam the entrance while alighting or boarding the train can be stopped. Increase the number of ladies specials. (Already there are enough but still few should be added.) Separate bogies for luggage compartments should be increased. This would avoid the confusion of commuters. So much so can be done and so much so is the need of an hour, Mumbai local has limited space and maximum challenges, but still the Western railway has come up with an announcement to increase stations in south Mumbai. Hoping that with the launch of metro stations and trains, Mumbaikars might get solace in commuting.

Students, Tool to political play

Politician see Student as Puppet,Politicians,Puppet,CAA,Citizenship Act, Student Protests,Jamia Millia University Protest,Mumbai University Protest,Aligarh Muslim University,Protest,COngress,Shiv Sena,BJP,Citizenship Amendment ActIndia that is known for non-violence is currently going through a crisis created by our politicians who are using students for their vendetta. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had recently introduced the Citizenship (Amendment) Act in the Parliament which was passed by both the houses (Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha).

This step of the BJP led to protest in many parts of the country. Like it is said that there is no smoke without fire and exactly the same these politicians have been doing, using people like a puppet for their own political benefit. If the agitation against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act continues for another week or so, it is feared that someday states like Assam and other North Eastern states may face fuel supply issues. The fierce agitation has resulted into closure of refineries and oil-producing facilities in the region.

Some of the protesters agitating against the amended Citizenship Act had clashed with the Delhi police and almost hundred two-wheelers and DTC buses were damaged in Bharat Nagar area of South Delhi. Later on, the students of Jamia Millia Islamia University started protesting against this act which turned into a scuffle. Reportedly, on Sunday evening when the students started a peaceful march against CAB it ended into battle between a violent mob and the Delhi Police. Sooner, the Delhi Police entered the campus and detained more than hundred students and nabbed some outsiders who had entered the premises to hide.

The police said that both the students of the university and the Teachers’ Association have disassociated themselves with the violence and firebombing which took place near the university.  Later, the police arrested 10 people on Tuesday which according to them were not the students of the University and have criminal backgrounds. The arrested are from the Jamia and Okhla areas which are the border of the University of the National Capital.

The protests left dozens of students and some police officers injured. Also, two men who were apparently part of the protest were admitted to a Hospital on Monday with bullet injuries. However, the police have said that they did not fire bullets at the protesters.

On the Jamia Millia protest, the Maharashtra’s CM and the Shiv Sena supremo Uddhav Thackeray also slammed the Central government and asked them to not do what they were doing with the students. He said, “What happened at Jamia Millia Islamia is like the Jallianwala Bagh incident. Students are like a ‘Yuva bomb’, hence we request the central government to not do what they are doing with students.”

Whether it is Congress sponsored violence or a BJP sponsored one, one thing is clear that political parties should spare students from their act of vengeance. Why use these poor students to serve your political needs?

South Mumbai railway stations to get facelift

Mumbai Station,Mumbai Railway Station,Mumbai,Railway Station,Mumbai Local,Local Railway Station,Local Station,Charni Road Railway Station,Marine Lines Railway Station,Grant Road Railway StationThe oldest and historic local train stations like Charni Road, Grant Road, and Marine Lines will get makeover. Commuters travelling through these stations will get to witness the old heritage look. Western Railways has announced a renovation, which is expected to be completed by 2022. The authorities mentioned that Grant Road and Charni Road stations will begin work in Phase 1 while Marine Lines station will be part of Phase 2. The cost of renovation for the Grant Road and Charni Road stations has been estimated to be Rs 5.31 crores and Rs 3.74 crores respectively. These local stations witness around 77,345 passengers every day. The Grant Road station connects to the Frere road overbridge with a skywalk while also having four platforms and three foot-over- bridges or FOBs. These stations will be transformed into original heritage look.

The tea stalls and restrooms in the station will be restructured to match the new architecture of the station. There will also be a fresh coat of paint on the building, while the mezzanine floor at the station will also undergo complete repair. The Charni Road station, on the other hand, sees around 51,855 passengers each day and has been in a state of disrepair for quite some time now. The station will see the addition of new steel reinforcements in the building that housed the booking office, while it will also see the widening of an existing foot-over-bridge. In the meanwhile, authorities have put out a word to potential bidders for this construction project.

Western Railways is also keen to restore the two stations back to their original look. There’s a significant amount of history in both stations with the Grant Road station set up in 1859 while the Charni Road station came into operation in 1878. The Grant road station is named after former Governor of Bombay Sir Robert Grant. Charni Road station has four platforms and three FOBs.

Beauty comes from beautiful soul

Dr Ronak ShahDr. Ronak P Shah, is a physician, a diabetologist and a cosmetologist par excellence. After completing his MBBS, he interned at the reputed Lokmanya Tilak Municipal Medical College (Sion Hospital), where he was immensely appreciated for his dedication, hard work and clinical skills. He has pursued his training and practical skills from various renowned institutions across the globe.

He recently received NAI award for best doctor. Here are the excerpts of conversation with our Editor in Chief Dr Vaidehi Taman

You are award winning successful physician and now cosmetologist, what has inspired you to enter in beauty industry?

My sister is a dermatologist at USA who inspired me to look towards cosmetology branch. Also the way cosmetology has changed in last decade and the kind of wonders we can do with their faces has got me to this industry

As a cosmologist what are those biggest myth about beauty that you want to clarify?

Google is the biggest myth please don’t follow Dr Google

How do you deal with a popular myth prevalent today is that products containing natural ingredients are better for skin?

I ask them a simple question is your product USFDA approved

If yes proceed

If no then don’t use it

Most often the answer is NO not approved by USFDA and then we leave them to take their own call

Recently many deaths were caused due to liposuction, however safe it is?

I specialise in non invasive fat loss so I am not the right person to answer that

but still death during or post procedure is because of multiple factors and its not always doctor who is the culprit. No doctor is here to take someone`s life

What is the biggest difference between non-surgical weight reduction and surgical way of losing weight?

Non surgical is slow process and you can sustain it for a longer time. Surgical is fast and instant but the long term consequences of surgical procedure are very bad

Is it affordable for common man?

Unfortunately non surgical fat loss is expensive but we are trying to get them best in whatever is their budget.

Who should undergo such treatments?

Everyone has some form of fat. Everyone above BMI of 28 should get themselves at least consulted for obesity and then take a call for treatment. Diet and exercise remain the first line of treatment.

And what are the dos and don’ts of surgical beautification?

Never get surgery done because the list of don`ts is very long post surgery

What are the risks involved in such procedures?

All surgical procedures have the same risk which any other surgery will have. A person may survive BYPASS (CABG) and the same person may die in simple operation like appendix. So any surgical procedure will carry that risk

How much desired change can be guaranteed by doctors?

We can fulfil all the realistic desires of patient.

Any identity crises issues after facial alternarions?

Generally not but it depends on what procedure is done

How do you look at these surgeries as craving for look more beautiful or need of circumstances?

It should be avoided as far as possible

Have you ever faced awkward situations from patients?

Most of the times we face it because patients have unrealistic expectations

Hence lot of our time goes in counselling and making them understand what can be achieved and what cannot be achieved. Once they understand then it is a cake walk.

How important it is to educate a person seeking treatment about aesthetic procedures are not about becoming somebody else, but becoming the best version of you.

Very very important

Like I mentioned earlier that lot of our time goes in counselling the patient and making them understand what is realistically possible and yes we make sure that they look the best possible version of themselves. We have always delivered more than what we have promised them

What would you tell everybody about the difference between wanting to look beautiful and being obsessed with the idea of looking beautiful?

For me everyone is beautiful and we make them more attractive with which they are very happy in life. Obsession is always difficult to tackle as they have some form of Psychiatric disorder which needs to be treated simultaneously.

Your question reminds me of a quote from the fairy tale of snow white and 7 dwarfs

MIRROR MIRROR ON THE WALL WHO IS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL OF ALL

We all know what obsession of looking beautiful can lead us too from the story of snow white

How do you look at mushrooming cosmetologists in Mumbai?

They need to have patience and stick to ethics as success will follow

How do you maintain ethics over aesthetics?

Ethics has always been the priority that’s why our patients are happy. Few patients have gone elsewhere because we gave them ethical answers which they didn’t like initially. However after window shopping or losing money elsewhere they have often come back just because we were ethical in our approach.

What is your message to our readers?

Beauty comes from beautiful soul

Misinterpretation of Citizenship Amendment Act

CAB protest, Citizenship Amendment Bill 2019, Citizenship Amendment Act, CAA Protest, NO CAB, CAB oppose, Student Protest CAA, Student Protest,CAA ProtestIt pains to see so much of public and private property being attacked and set ablaze and complete chaos ruling the road and the rails, the towns and the villages making day to day life a terrible night mare in some parts of the nation in the name of the Citizens Amendment Act which the government passed recently. Making it more serious is the way in which the agitation has crept into institutions of higher learning completely putting students’ life out of gear. The opposition which was completely drowned in the Lok Sabha election was waiting for something to save their skin and the CAB has come as a life saver. Without going in for an analysis or a deep study of the fact it is truly sad that some of the top political parties and their leaders are simply backing the protesters in the name of religious  and regional appeasement.

The opposition is now raising its decibels that the entire nation is against the bill. But they have to understand that the NDA led by the BJP had made it clear in their manifesto 2019  that CAB will be one of the prime issues that they would deal and settle once they come back to power. The majority of the people of the nation voted BJP back to power fully showing their faith and belief  in the party and also they were sure that what the outfit says will be done unlike the others. It seems that the opposition  has still not realised this fact. Instead of understanding the core of the fact they misinterpreted it by diluting it with religious matters making things slide from bad to worse. The leaders of the ruling party have made it cent per cent clear that CAB will not affect the Indian Muslim community as they are part of the nation. But sad that despite such clarifications many in the community along with others have fallen into the hands of some parties  and factions that survive and can survive only on hard core religious ideologies and appeasement .It’s not far when they will realise that all this chaos, agitation and conflicts are being made by some who have vested interests and political mottos. The government will have to now take immediate measures to see that the issues  connected to CAB are solved and clarify the doubts and instill faith in those  who have fallen into unwanted scepticism, apprehension and suspicion.

Letters to the Editor: 17 December, 2019

letters to the editor, afternoon voice,India invariably lose whenever Kohli is dismissed cheaply

West Indies thrashed India in the ODI opener at Chennai with ease. Caribbean is a formidable side in limited overs format as they surpassed India’s decent total of 287 losing just two wickets in the bargain. Virat Kohli should not be expected to score in every innings he bats and Team India’s dependence on their skipper to hit big knocks in every outing is a matter of grave concern.

Our bowling too is our weak link along with fielding and we need to pay more attention to win consistently at international level where competition is tough. A match winning hundred from Hetmyer and Hope’s contribution were key performances that stood out in the game. India I am sure will bounce back and players should show dedication and commitment which seems to be missing at the moment.

Shameless move

A protest against the controversial Citizenship Act turned violent in Delhi as the police entered the university to arrest the students. At least 40 students were injured in police’s lathi charge. It’s a shameful move from the cops because they can’t enter in university without voice chancellor’s permission.

Enforce fast tag rule to all the categories of HTVs and LMVs

The Hon’ble Ministry of Highways and Road Transport has initiated compulsory attachment of Fast tag stickers to all the vehicles. The move is aimed to promote a cashless toll based ecosystem apart from ensuring hassle free passage of vehicles at toll booths. The decision to implement the enforcement effective December 1 and its subsequent extension of upto 30 days comes as a huge relief to many vehicle owners.

Further it is requested to enforce the fast tag rule only to the commercial vehicles of all the categories of HTVs and LMVs. As such private/non-commercial vehicles especially car users in urban areas do not need to comply to fast tag rule. The need to pass through the toll with the help of a fast tag on a daily basis is not necessary as most of the cars travel only within the urban areas. Commercial vehicles on the other hand travel extensively across the state borders and hence the need to possess a fast tag to this category of vehicles is otherwise highly justified.

Since the Hon’ble Ministry has now extended the fast tag enforcement rule by 30 days, it is further requested to consider exempting private cars operating within city/urban areas from fast tag rule. The Ministry can direct the vehicle owners with an option to pay by cash at tolls and thus make fast tag adherence an optional requirement especially for private car owners who only use tolls selectively during the year.

Actress Payal Rohatgi finding fortune in BJP’s active politics?

I was not surprised to get the news of B grade actress Payal Rohatgi being jailed for an ‘Objectionable’ post on the Nehru-Gandhi family. This is not the first time that she has made any such controversial remarks. After failing to make it big in modeling and her film career, she opted to be a social media samurai. Well, Twitter gave her the fame. Rohatgi shared fake news and fringe theories multiple times from her Twitter account. She was blocked from Twitter for a week for ‘communalising’ the 2019 Hyderabad gang rape. The Twitter handle of the Mumbai police blocked Rohatgi in 2019 but they rectified their action when she resented it and informed the ex-Chief Minister’s wife, Amruta Fadnavis who voiced support for her.

During the 2018 Kerala floods, Rohatgi had claimed that it was a wrath of God due to cow slaughter. Her remarks were called as an “insensitive” after which she was trolled on Twitter due to her remarks. In July 2019, she also commented on inequality in Islam on Instagram over Zaira Wasim’s decision to leave Bollywood. Police complaint against her was lodged at Oshiwara police station in August 2019 over her remarks. The lady also attacked the 19th century Indian social reformer, Raja Ram Mohan Roy as a “traitor” and lackey of the British and accused him of defaming the tradition of Sati. She also glorified in the tradition of Sati in which a woman burnt herself alive after the death of her husband. Hindol Sengupta and Sanjeev Sanyal presented balanced views of the events over her. Museum Secretary of Raja Ram Mohan Roy Memorial Museum said that Rohatgi seems to know nothing about him. In June 2019, Rohatgi claimed that Maratha ruler Shivaji was born in a Shudra varna and later moved up in the caste hierarchy. NCP leader Jitendra Awhad filed a complaint against her in Mumbai and demanded arrest over her remarks. She issued a video apology over Twitter.

Rohatgi claimed that Jawaharlal Nehru, the first prime minister of India was not a legitimate child of Motilal Nehru but was born out of an illicit relationship of Kamala Nehru with another man in the Facebook video in October 2019. She also alleged that Motilal Nehru had five wives. Youth Congress leader lodged a police complaint against her for insulting the Nehru family. Later, she offered a public apology to Priyanka Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi. On 15th December, she was detained by the Jaipur Police due to her remarks on the Nehru-Gandhi family. Rohatgi has been booked under relevant Sections of the IT Act and the Indian Penal Code (IPC) including that which deals with insulting with intent to provoke a breach of peace. A small-time Bollywood flop actress is sent to judicial custody – till December 24 – by a local court in Rajasthan on Monday morning. The Bundi District Court had earlier rejected Rohatgi’s bail plea; her lawyer is planning an appeal against that rejection. On Sunday, Rohatgi was picked up from her residence in Ahmedabad in Gujarat – by a Rajasthan Police team.

In response, Dinesh Parekh, appearing for the complainant.- the Congress’s Charmesh Sharma reminded the Court  that Rohatgi had posted scurrilous content about members of the Nehru-Gandhi family. Payal Rohatgi has said she made the video – the allegedly objectionable content in question – when a discussion on ‘triple talaq’ was happening in Parliament (in the Monsoon session) and she felt that the Congress was not supporting the bill. A case had earlier been registered by Rajasthan Youth Congress General Secretary Charmesh Sharma. In his complaint Sharma alleged the content tarnished the image of the country and spread vulgarity and religious hatred besides disgracing a woman’s character. The content was posted on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram on September 6 and again on September 21. Earlier this month, Rohatgi alleged on Twitter that Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot was being pressured by the Gandhi family into acting against her. She claimed that she had a “recording” of people referring to the pressure and sought an apology from interim Congress President Sonia Gandhi and her daughter Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.

There are many like Rohatgi on social media who claim to be nationalists but forget the fact that they violate all the boundaries of decency. I personally think she does all this thing to stay in limelight. Considering what she has done in Bollywood and Big Boss. She is doing it all for publicity and to stay in the limelight. She has not done anything credible in her career. Rather, she is a D grade actress who exposed her body, did nude scenes and tried to get into the limelight. It is not just Payal Rohatgi or Koena Mitra, Akshay Kumar who is a present superstar paying the maximum income tax, Raveena Tandon who was among the most sought after Bollywood actresses before her marriage, actor Anupam Kher, singer Sonu Nigam and a lot of others who raise their voice against the appeasement in Bollywood. If you talk about people who are not from Bollywood, the highest scorer in two world cup finals – Gautam Gambhir, Dr. Subramanian Swamy, who have passed out from the number one university of the world – Harvard University also voices his concern against appeasement. These are few of the prominent personalities. They are/were by no means failures in their respective fields. People everywhere, in every industry, of all age groups, gender, social status are fed up with the one way secularism that has been going on in India for  decades. Hindu Nationalism, under the banner of Hindutva, meaning, “Hinduness”, was adopted into the BJP ideology in 1989, courtesy of course by their affiliate RSS.

In its essence, it calls for India to be ruled in Hindu manner as opposed to the current secular rule of law. It makes the central assentation that India is a Hindu nation and that all other religious minorities essentially exist in India by the good-will and laws of the Hindu majority. No doubt, nationalism is a feeling that makes one proud of his/her country even if the country has some shortcomings. The concept is widely abused and misinterpreted across the globe. Many people use the term ‘Nationalism’ to define a feeling associated with a bunch of fanatic extremists who would support their nation no matter what. By definition, Nationalism for these nations means support of these parties/rulers as due to their style these rulers/parties are equivalent to the respective country as far as framing rules and policies are concerned. So any criticism of the ruler/party is deemed as a criticism of the country on a whole. The biggest irony however is that both Islam and Communism are against the concept of ‘Nationhood’.

People like Payal Rohatgi are not much successful in their respective careers. So, finding a place in politics can be their prerogative and we all have witnessed in the past, more you create controversy against the Nehru Gandhi, more are you are liked by the BJP. Maybe this arrest can fetch some fortune for Payal in active politics.
