As speculations grow over the Narendra Modi government asking UPA appointed governors to step down, Maharashtra Governor K Sankaranarayanan has said that such rumours are insulting to the Constitutional post.

“No one has a permanent post in Democracy. The rumours around governor’s post is an insult to the constitutional post. I will take appropriate steps if asked by the appropriate authorities,” he said.

This comes after the Union Home Secretary called Sankaranarayanan two days ago.

According to sources, all the governors appointed by the Congress are likely to submit their resignation and those who refuse to do so, will be transferred by the Narendra Modi government.

On Tuesday, UP Governor Banwari Lal Joshi tendered his resignation. The President met a slew of governors in the past few days including those of Karnataka and Assam. However, HR Bhardwaj JB Patnaik have dismissed rumours of them stepping down.

Rajasthan Governor Margaret Alva too met the President.

The NDA government is reportedly mulling to change the Governors of the five state – Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal.
