Teenager ends life after being scolded by mother

A 14-year-old girl allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan at her house in Mumbra town here after being scolded by her mother, police said.
The victim, an eighth grade student, took the extreme step on Sunday night around 9 pm after her mother berated her Thursday for not drying washed clothes, API N S Jadhav of Mumbra police station said.
The teenager, a resident of Almas Colony, was already suffering from depression due to her studies, police said. According to a police official from Mumbra police station, preliminary probe revealed that the victim was forced to do all the household chores.
“But we are investigating on these things and will also call the girl’s parents for their statement. There have been no arrests yet,” he said. Police have registered a case of accidental death and have sent the body for postmortem.
