Tribals of Thane will stage a protest here, opposing the bifurcation of the district and demanded for a separate tribal district.
The state government has recently divided Thane into two districts, with Palghar as the new district and will come into being from August 1.
President of Adivasi Ekta Parishad, Kaluram Dodhade said that local tribal will protest under their banner outside the Divisional Commissioner office at Konkan Bhavan here next week on Wednesday.
Dodhade, said that other social tribal outfits will also join them to press for their demand of a separate tribal-dominated district, as their population is more than 1.25 crore in the district.
He said that with formation of Palghar district, the tribal areas will be deprived of development. Meanwhile, the BJP district unit is also opposed the bifurcation and have demanded a separate tribal district with Jawhar as its headquarters.
