Andhra Pradesh poll campaign: Rahul Gandhi promises Special Category Status

Addressing his first election rally in Andhra Pradesh, which goes to simultaneous assembly and Lok Sabha polls, Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Sunday promised special category status to the state, if the party is voted to power in the coming Lok Sabha elections. He also expressed surprise that how the parties in the state failed to ‘aggressively’ push the issue.

The Congress President also guaranteed the intention of his party to launch a ‘surgical strike’ on poverty. He termed his proposed minimum income scheme ‘Nyay’ as historic and said that it is a “non-violent weapon” that will be used to uplift the poorest.

Rahul Gandhi took the chance to target PM Modi saying that while the previous Congress-led UPA had created poverty eradication schemes, Prime Minister “Narendra Modi dismantled everything.”

“He destroyed the pillars of MGNREGA and Food Security Act,” the Congress chief added in his over 30 minute speech.
