Senior Cabinet minister and Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan’s Maulana Mohammad Ali Juahar Trust in Rampur was allotted building by Uttar Pradesh government at a rate of Rs. 100 per year on lease for 33 years, said.

Meanwhile, UP Governor Ram Naik has sought an explanation from the state government over the lease deal.

The piece of property houses the Jauhar Research Institute. The circular was issued in November last year.

Social activist Nutan Thakur has filed a complaint with the Lokayukta against the state government over the allocation building to the trust.

“The building was given on lease to the Maulana Mohammad Ali Juahar Trust for 33 years, on Rs. 100 per year,” SP Singh, secretary of the state minorities’ department and Wakf was quoted as saying.

He also said that the state government would retain ownership of the property.

RP Singh, district officer of minorities’ welfare and Wakf, has signed the memorandum of understanding with state cabinet minister Azam Khan’s trust, said sources.

The said building is located on 200 bighas of land.
