Kiran Bedi’s appointment as Puducherry’s lieutenant governor

Our PM deserves kudos for his decision to appoint Kiran Bedi as a Lieutenant. Governor of Puducherry. Such strong administrator is required for the development of the union territory. Appointment of first Woman IPS Officer for such a prime Post is a welcome move. Her track record in Tihar is a brilliant one and bears testimony of her abilities. A police mind and highly opinionated personality can be disastrous for the smooth functioning of any elected government. A sports lover and an author, Bedi is a recipient of Ramon Magsaysay Award as well as UN Medal for outstanding service. She is honest, capable and hard-working officer and she can prove her worth. Her work has always been on people-centric services. After the BJP was routed by the Aam Aadmi Party in the state, the party’s decision to project Bedi as the CM candidate was criticized. She was one of the pioneers of anti-corruption crusade in 2011 along with Anna Hazare and Kejriwal against the then UPA government. Had she been posted a couple of years ago much of the overall deterioration in all spheres of the Union Territory could have been arrested. It’s better late than never. There is no doubt that Bedi puts things in order wherever she goes.
