Lalu rubbishes reports on alliance talk with JD(U)

Amid reports that the Janata Dal (United) may seek support from the Rashtriya Janata Dal to keep the government afloat in Bihar following Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s resignation, Lalu Prasad Yadav has denied holding any talks on the matter.

“All the news is baseless and concocted, I haven’t spoken to Sharad Yadav,” the RJD chief said.

Lalu said his party RJD will take a decision only after the JD(U) decide on the future course of action.

“I have called party’s meeting on Monday. Only after they (JD-U) take a decision, that will decide,” Lalu said on extending support to JD(U).

“I have kept an eye on the situation, it is their internal matter,” Lalu said on the issue of JD(U) choosing a new CM.

Lalu’s reaction came after the JD(U) appeared set to align with arch rival RJD.

JD(U) general secretary KC Tyagi this morning said the RJD will join the government in Bihar.

“RJD will join the government after JD(U) elects its new leader,” Tyagi said.

“I had talked several times with RJD chief Lalu Prasad in this connection in the last 24 hours,” he said.

Tyagi also made it clear that Lalu was opposed to Nitish Kumar continuing as chief minister.

According to JD-U leaders, party president Sharad Yadav also talked with Lalu Prasad thrice since Saturday night for a realignment of the old Janata Dal parivar in Bihar after both the JD(U) and RJD were massacred in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections.

In fact, it was Sharad Yadav who first hinted at a re-alignment of forces with the RJD soon after Nitish Kumar quit his post Saturday.

“We are ready to sink differences with RJD chief Lalu Prasad to form a secular alliance government in Bihar,” Sharad said.
