Hero worship era comes to an end with the sad demise of Jayalalithaa who was a towering personality down south and other parts of the country. She was a mass leader almost treated like a deity by her fan following and her death has sent shocked waves all across Tamil Nadu which was governed by her for many years. Jayalalithaa amassed lot of wealth during her reign as Chief Minister but still remained popular because most part of it was spent on public welfare programmes which benefited the poor who called her ‘amma’. From a popular film star to an even more popular politician, Jayalalithaa’s journey has been memorable and she would be remembered by her followers for a long time to come.
